What are people saying about the course?

The Warm Data Lab is a simple and profound process that shifts relationships and allows for unprecedented possibilities to emerge. The host training with Nora Bateson has given more depth and texture to my understanding of complexity and system transformation.

As a facilitator, I’m less likely to want to land an answer, organise the group’s thinking or look for the new framework. I am more willing to be with confusion and complexity even longer. To see the emerging and changing patterns, hear the spoken and unspoken messages, to step back and listen for a different question to emerge.

If you are lucky enough to get the opportunity to spend time with Nora Bateson, don’t hesitate.
— Claire McKendrick, facilitator
One of the biggest shifts in my thinking thanks to the warm data lab has been around the nature of technology. I used to believe that technology was inherently neutral, but I now see that line of reasoning as naïve. A technology does not exist independently from its contexts. And these contexts are part of complex systems. So it’s clear to me now that we need to think hard about whether certain technologies should ever be built or released.
— David Jones, Executive Producer/Principal Program Manager, Office Envisioning, Microsoft
I came to Nora’s warm data training residential looking at working in the liminal space. I had no expectations but sensed it was important to be here. I am blown away by Nora’s presence, her insight and contributions to the meta-messages of how we learn to get out of the mess of our thinking to a trans contextual learning from a place of being in relationship and interdependence. I have grown so much from this hugely transformational learning. Nora thank you from the bottom of my heart and thank you to all the conversations that unfolded these past five days within our warm data labs and my fellow participants. Wow just wow.
— Dawne Fahey
Participating in Nora Bateson’s Warm Data Lab practicum has been a deeply enriching experience. We have entered a world that feels spacious, expensive and generous. Nora holds the space with lightness, expertise, warmth, humour. In this I have an unfolding sense of what is possible within a room where transcontextuality is embraced and enabled. Thank you.

I have loved completing the residential warm data workshop under Nora’s guidance and have been blown away by the potential and possibilities opened by her approach in considering complex problems. As a policy maker and data analyst, I cannot overstate the importance of this work, the inspiration, the richness, the depth and variety held in this workshop is simply invaluable.

Nora has given us the opportunity to re-feel, re-shape, re-settle what it is to be human. In an increasingly fragmented, polarised, painful world, this gift is immeasurable. The tools, theories, anecdotes, relational processes, are a beautiful prism through which we can begin to be ok with discomfort and confusion. Nora’s work is flowing within us, flowing within the world, flowing within our families, our communities and has the potential to be the “one thing” that might actually save us all. I now feel the profoundest sense of relief. It’s coursing through my body and making me so unbelievably happy. Thank you for this gift Nora.

In a warm data lab workshop, you are likely to find answers to many questions you have. A sense of great hope and a model of great help, in a time of uncertainty. Also a lot of fun and compassion. I had a complete neuro-physiological reset over the week with Nora. I can see now how to go forward in a way that brings all our communities together, understanding in a much deeper way, how we create our future.

Nora Bateson’s week long Warm Data Intensive reveals within ourselves & the way we organize thinking, framing and experience, the conditions and the social container that allows truly novel ideas, alliances and responses to problems to emerge. The key to opening for transformation lies in the spaces and relationships existing and evolving. Warm data - it’s always been there evolving and connecting. Finally we are beginning to wake up to its existence and energy. Nora’s passion, lineage and skills opens you up to those liminal spaces which exist within and between each of us, all living things and the biosphere itself. I’m beginning to sense myself fully for the first time and that is transformative for everything.
— Nikki Thompson, Soil 2 Soul
This course enabled me to accept and work with the complexity of life, formally and in organisations, in a way that honours all of it and keeps alive instead of conquering it in the name of certainty.

The WD processes are fun to do, subtle and intelligent. I found the conversations interesting especially as they deepened and spread among people in different groups. it builds. The huge blessing is to step out of the repetitive conversations that plague us. I can understand that by talking together in sequence something magical can happen.
— Nadine Hood
I have benefited in at least three ways from spending this with Nora, learning about warm data labs. I have deepened and broadened my existing understanding of complexity - it now includes a healthy dose of Bateson. I have clarified how I might most usefully employ my professional energies moving forward answering the questions “how might i be most useful in the time of transition?” And I have learned the why, how and whats of hosting a warm data lab. Getting to know Nora through this work has been a wonder-filled experienced.
— Josie McLean - Principle Consultant + Zombie Hunter
Getting beyond boundaries, not only of discipline and practice, but all forms of life is integral to (approaching) the complexity of contemporary global cultures and the experiences we are sharing now as only Warm Data considers with real and or creative (artistic) difference. Finally Warm Data is a non fragmented approach to the complexity of all areas of personal and social community, and creatively.
— Jewell Homad Johnson
The residential course in Warm Data was informing and a good experience at many levels, it worked to generate a good appreciation of complexity and feeling amongst the group as they worked through the exercises with each other. The combination of explanation and the experience of doing the process itself were both very subtle and developed an approach in itself. It seemed pretty intuitive but backed up by a sophisticated and academically informed body of theory so it could be engaged with at a reasonable level if you wanted to further in that direction. I liked it quite a lot.

WDL is an opportunity and invitation to explore [your world, business, work-life, project etc] in fresh ways, together with friends old and new. We can co-create new possibilities with the warm wisdom that arises from new ways of perceiving.
— Jamie Joy Throgmorton, US
I loved the WDL training because, in spite of the difficulty of the topics approached, Nora explained all the contents with patience and using a lot of examples from her everyday life to help us to understand. The training allows you to look at the reality with new eyes and to see all the interconnections through a non-rational approach. Thank you Nora.
— Leonora Perez, Italy
The WDL taught me that it’s possible seeing reality through new lenses. I can recognize some simplifications I did, some judgments I declared. Looking at the world in a different way will make me a better person. I don’t know if I’ll be capable to act better, but I think that my awareness changed a lot. Thank you Nora. PS. I have a lot to digest now!
— Claudia Pellicori, Italy
First of all, WDL training is a big transformative meeting. Nora is very good to accompany participants in an exciting tour with the complexity realm. Personally, I learned a lot in this wonderful experience.
— Massimo Giorgini, Italy
WDL really opens your (our) minds up. It’s the only thing we need. Everything that will come after will be different. We lose so many things, we are so self-limiting and we cannot afford to lose time doing useless things. You learn how to make better questions, and better questions are what can really help us make progress. You will really feel that boundaries aren’t a serious thing. Thanks Nora.
— Luca, Italy
WDL opens and widens the possibilities to create some much-needed new mankind narratives.
— Belgium
Insightful, thought-provoking, heart-warming, inspiring immersion within the inner fabric of the complexity driving everything we experience and do. I gained hope for not just today but especially in our brightest future.
— Emanuele Quintarelli
During the WDL training I learned to see and perceive life with “HD” lenses. Because it is not WHAT I sense in life, but HOW I do it. Sharing has a deeper meaning, more rich, more interesting, more useful. I am energized by the fact that we can hold spaces where these learnings can be experienced by many people.
— Miwski, The Netherlands
